Firmware update utilities for UNIX

Many people on UNIX systems have no PC to do a firmware update.
I am working on a firmware update utility for that reason.
Companies that want a UNIX firmware update utility for their drives must send me
a drive, the firmware and information on how to do the update.
Please also read this notice.

Some general notes on precautions for firmware updates on UNIX

u must make sure that no other system activity will interrupt the firmware updates procedur

You have two diffent options to do this.

If you want to be 100% sure, do it in single user mode:

If possible do the firmware update in single user mode.

If you like to do the firmware update in single user mode, reboot into single user do not shut down to single user.
Some OS (e.g. Solaris) do not properly shut down daemons.

In case you cannot put the machine into single user mode:

Unmount any media that is inserted into the drive that needs to be updated.

Remove any media that is inserted into the drive that needs to be updated.

Shut down the volume management system.

Some OS (e.g. MacOS X) do not allow to shut down the volume management system.
For this reason, it is important to make sure that no medium is in the drive.

The Plextor update program PXUpdate for UNIX

Please first read the instructions for the firmware update.
Load the apropriate PXupdate binary for your platform from the ftp server. Note that you also need the firmware for your drive.
